"White, adorned the sides of two branches of pine and fruit leaved loaded and the civic emblem (Royal Decree on 4 February 1942). The magistrate community of Viareggio, at its meeting on 17 April 1848, approved the municipal emblem, which consisted of a tripartite shield, with the colors green, white and red, which campeggiava an anchor with gomena coiled. On 17 May of that year, the emblem was approved by Cosimo Ridolfi, Minister of the Government of Tuscany, and then became the official symbol of the people viareggino. After the decree Grand Duchy of 2 June 1849, which was abolished with the flag, coat of arms that disappeared from Viareggio. After shooting the unification Viareggio emblem original testimony to the ideals Risorgimento. Viareggio was declared "city" by Maria Luisa of Bourbon, Duchess of Lucca, on 7 June 1820."

Viareggio gonfalon can be seen at the 4th Artiglio Prize presentation on 9 Jun 2007 at <www.artiglio.org>. Only the award ceremony caused a bow in the national colours to be added to the gonfalon.

The two pine seedlings are indeed represented with needles and cones. I doubt that such young plants would already produce fruit (cones), but this an heraldic license.
