The city emblem and the flag were adopted on Sep 1st 2005 by Notice No 131. The white flag has a green and a blue two color city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized kanji 八 Hachi of Hachimantai. The emblem depicts the shining sun in the blue sky above three mountains ( Mt.Iwate, Mt.Hachiman and Appi Highland) as a city symbol and an abandunt earth which represent a development of interchange city. The flag proportion is 2: 3. The diameter of the emblem is 3/5 height of the flag.
