The city emblem was adopted on May 5th 1937 but there is no flag law. The blue flag has a white city emblem in the center. The city emblem depicts a stone boiler = kamaishi in the center surrounded by a coastal breakwater and an iron and a steel. It represents Port Kamaishi, a city of steel industry and the promotional development of the city.
Kamaishi City General Affairs section says they use a blue official flag at the city hall building and the white flag with a red emblem is variant.
