The town emblem was adopted on Jul 1st 2005 by Notice No 1
but there is no flag law.
The white flag has a green, a blue and an orange three color town emblem in the center.
The town emblem is a stylized katakana シ Sh of Shonan in a form of a man.
The green color stands for a rich ground, a countryside, the blue color for the stream of Mogami River,
the orange color for the sun and a rice stalk.
As a whole, it represents an image of the vigorous town people who lives in rich natural circumstances.

The flag of the former town of Amarume was green with mark. The town is now,
from 2005, part of the town of Shonai.
