The city emblem was adopted on Jan 1st 1999 but there is no flag law. The maroon flag has a white city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized kanji 米 Yone of Yonezawa in a form of a folding-fan. It represents a player for the future development. The cherry blossom in the background symbolizes a bright and livable home land.
