The city emblem was adopted on Nov 7th 2005 by Notice No 1 but there is no flag law. The white flag has a red, a blue and a light blue three color city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized kanji 白 Shira of shirakawa. The center oblong stands for a vigor of the bright citizen, the blue outer oblong for a rich ground and a fresh water, the light blue color for a fresh sky, the upper part for the historic culture. The upward design symbolizes a harmony and an image of the city which unlimitedly makes a leap into the future.
