The city emblem was adopted on Mar 19th 2005 by Notice No 20 but there is no flag law. The light green flag has a green, a white and a yellow three color city emblem  in the center. The city emblem is a stylized kanji 糸 Ito of  Itoigawa. It represents a refreshing, healthy and shining city and an interchange city  and also an image of the city where the citizen, the city administration and corporations work together in a rich nature.
