The city emblem was adopted on Mar 20th 1941 and the flag was adopted on Apr 24th 1970 by Regulations No 22. The green flag has a white city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized kanji 小 Ko of Komatsu in a circle of pine needles = matsu. It represents an extension of the industry, the commerce, the agriculture and forestry, an unlimited development , a concord , a peace and a strong bond of the city. The flag proportion is 7:10.
