The city emblem was adopted on Aug 1st 1954 and the flag was adopted on Aug 1st 1974 by Notice No 55. The green flag has a white city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized hiragana いい Ii and kanji 山Yama. The circle symbolizes a concord and a development. The white color stands for a pure-white snow and the green color for a beauty of virid mountains and an abandunt nature. The flag proportion is 2:3.
