The city emblem was adopted on Oct 1st 1964 but there is no flag law. The light blue flag has a white city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized kanji 八 Ya of Yawata in a form of two pigeons representing a spirit of a peace and a friendship. The surrounding bamboo circle symbolizes a grownig young power and the ineradicability to overcome difficulties.
