The town emblem was adopted on Feb 1st 1956 by Ordinance No 5 but there is no flag law. The white flag has a gold town emblem in the center. The town emblem is a stylized kanji 平 Hira of Hirao in a form of a mountain, an anchor and salt. The outer circle stands for a conformity, a reconcillation, a cooperation, a solidarity of the town people and a peace of the future.
