The city emblem was adopted in May 1900 but there is no flag law. The white flag is charged with red city emblem in the center. The flag proportion are 2:3. The city emblem is a stylized kanji NAGA 長 and also a star-shaped folded paper crane
which represents Nagasaki called as a port of cranes. Inside are five kanji 市 (city) which
symbolizes that Nagasaki is one of five open ports appointed in the late Tokugawa period.
