The flag was adopted on Feb 1st 1966 by the prefecture by Notice No 9. The flag proportions are 2:3. The blue flag is charged with a white stylized kanji Oita 大分
in the center. The round symbols represent peaceful development of the city.

The flag of former town of Saganoseki was green (or blue) with mark. The town
is now, from 2005, part of the city of Oita.

Perhaps a bit more inclining towards blue, but this might be a good
approximation for now, too.
