Shinko Shipping Co., Ltd.

From: Boone Scripophily:

Text: "Share of 500 Yen. blue, yellow, red, black. Unusually large vignette for a Japanese share, showing early Japanese sailing ships at sea, and the company flag. (...) Extremely rare piece." Date of issue, 1917.

The design is in tune with many other Japanese house flags of that period, however, the western 'S' is rather striking.

Shinnihon Kisen K.K. formed 1947 as a re-establishment of Tatsuuma Kisen K.K. with the name equating to New Japan Steamship Co. Ltd., merging 1964 into Yamashita-Shinnihon Kisen K.K. The flag is taken from the funnel bands of the previous company.

Shinyei Shipping Co., Ltd

[Shinyei Shipping] image contributed by Jan Mertens, 7 June 2007

Based at Tokyo, Shinyei Shipping Co., Ltd shows the house flag (at least a waving flagoid) on the website

In these cases the ‘History’ section comes in handy. Some highlights: founded in 1978 as a freighting (container) service, active in the Far East, expansion towards Hong Kong and Singapore for instance. Mergers of subsidiaries with local operators, usually retaining ‘Shinyei’ in the name.

Apparently there is an operational division between Shinyei Shipping (Tokyo) and FPS or Famous Pacific Shipping (Osaka).

Aforementioned flagoid  is blue bearing linked white initials ‘HA’ (no serifs). Perhaps the ‘H’ refers to the family name of Mr Nobuhiko Hattori, President. A slightly different design - with a sharp ‘A’ - is on view here.

A white flagoid with a green flower-like figure.

I gather the firm was founded in 1979, is based at Tokyo, and is engaged in coastal shipping.
