  • Overview

Kaunas district - on a blue field over a silver pall a red shield with the silver head of a wild ox having a golden cross on top. Flag proportions 5:6, free edges bordered with golden rope, finial is a silver arrow head with golden bands. The blue field is traditional for banners of Trakai province (vaivadija), to which Kaunas district (pavietas) depended during the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The silver pall represents the three major rivers of Lithuania in confluence: Nemunas, Neris and Nevezis. The head of the wild ox with cross cites pars pro toto the arms of Kaunas city.
