Presentation of Bogovinje

The municipality of Bogovinje (in Albanian, Bogovina / Bogovinë; 28,997 inhabitants in 2002; 141.65 sq. km) is located in north-western Macedonia, south of Tetovo. It is made of the village of Bogovinje and the 13 settlements of Gorno Palcište (Pallçishti i Epërm), Gorno Sedlarce (Sedllarci i Epërm), Dolno Palcište (Pallçishti i Poshtëm), Jelovjane (Jellovjani), Kameljane (Kamjani), Žerovjane (Zherovjani), Novakje (Novaqi), Novo Selo (Novo Sella), Pirok (Piroku), Rakovec (Rakovci), Sekce Keč (Keçi), Siničaen (Siniçani) and Urvič (Urviçi).

The lake of Bogovinje is a "monument of nature". Quoting the Natural Heritage of the Republic of Macedonia website:

Uneven accumulation lake (length 452 m, width 225 m, depth 2.20 m) positioned at 1,936 m above the sea level, on the northern side of the mountain range Brustovec at Sar Planina. With an area of 66.8 ha, it is the largest among glacial lakes at the massive of Sara Mountain. Bogovinska River flows out of this lake.

Flag of Bogovinje

The municipal flag of Bogvinje, as shown on the Macedonian Ministry of Local Self-Government website (page no longer online) is red with the municipal coat of arms in the middle, outlined in white. The coat of arms is red with a charge I interpret as river Bogovinska flowing out of the lake of Bogovinje through the Sara Mountain. The charge is surmonted by the bilingual writing, in black OPSTINA BOGOVINJE / KOMUNA Ë BOGOVINËS. The year 199?, in black, is added in point of the shield.
