"Colegio Latinoamericano", managed by the Armed Forces of Nicaragua, was founded on 15 November 1995 by Decree of the Ministry of Education No. 28. Originally founded on 11 February 1975 as the "Bambi" kindergarten, the institute was transferred in 1982-1983 to the Armed Forces, starting secondary education in 1995.
The flag of "Colegio Latinoamericano", as shown graphically on the college's website, is divided light blue-green by the descending diagonal, the division being made of a red stripe above a white stripe. Light blue represents the greatness of the heavens, harmony and integrity of the students. Red represents the historical struggle of the Nicaragua people and its aspiration to learn from history towards freedom. White represents peace and purity. Green represents environment, forests and fields.

Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua

Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua (UNAN) is located in the town of León Santiago de los Caballeros, situated on the Pacific coast, 90 km from Managua. The remote ancestor of UNAN is the Conciliar Seminary of San Ramón "Nonnato" aka Tridentine College, set up in 1680 on the order of the Council of Trent. In 1812, the Seminary became a University, officially inaugurated in 1816. It was therefore the second university set up in Central America and the last one set up in the Americas during the Spanish colonial rule. In 1947, the University became a national university;  Executive Decree #38, signed on 27 March 1958, granted autonomy to the University. The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua was transformed into UNAN-León and UNAN-Managua in 1983.  UNAN-León website is at <www.unanleon.edu.ni>.
The flag of UNAN-León is horizontally divided red-white-blue with the coat of arms of the university in the middle, as shown on the university website showing a photography of the flag.
