Leeuwarden-Westeinde cityward
The municipality of Leeuwarden (Frysân) consists of the city of Leeuwarden
and several small villages. The city of Leeuwarden is divided in several
quarters, like Camminghaburen (which may have a flag based on the colors
of the FC Cambuur (soccer club)) and Westeinde.
Westeinde coat of arms: an Empire-shield of green with a red heart-shield, charged
with an open silver book with on each page a black capital W; on to and
left and right of the heart-shield with a goose feather, bending with the
form of the heart-shield, below an inkpot, all in gold. The shield placed
on a white ribbon charged with the text: WIJKVERENIGING WESTEINDE in green
capitals.
Flag: four equally wide horizontal stripes of blue and yellow; a red
hoist of 1/3 flag length, charged with a white goose feather, placed diagonally
from the bottom hoist; the feather is next to a white inkpot of 1/6 flag height. The flag is based on older proposals for Leeuwarder quarter-societies,
namely the Leeuwarder city flag with a red hoist as symbol for the building
(red brick houses), charged with elements characteristic of the quarter.
For the "Wijkvereniging Westeinde" the choice was made for a goose feather
and an inkpot, because the streets have been named after writers and poets.
The colors red and white are the colors of the old Frisian division of
Oostergo, of which Leeuwarden was the capital.
The coat of arms is based on the same theme: red buildings in a green quarter.
The heart shield (in de colors of Oostergo) shows the product of the
writers: the book. In the book two W's - the initials of the quarter-society.
