Kûbaard village (Kubaard)
Kûbaard (old spelling: Kûbaerd, Dutch: Kubaard) is a village
in Littenseradiel municipality, Fryslân province; it used to be in
the former municipality of Hennaarderadeel
with (1958) 429; (1974) 274 inhabitants. Birthplace of Petronella Moens
(1762-1843), a poet, who became blind in 1766, but still wrote novels,
poems, and children's books. In the 1970's several attempts were made to
create a more attractive image by organizing coffee-hours and a huge campaign
to get H. de Boer (CHU) elected in the municipal council. After his election
the only thing ever heard of him was a loud snore :-)
Kûbaard coat of arms: diagonally divided of green and red, over all a
narrow diagonal golden stripe; in green an issueing turned jumping horse
silver and in red a silver rose.
Flag: diagonally from hoist top to fly bottom of green and red and over
all a yellow narrow diagonal stripe of 3/10 flag height and in red a white
rose of 2/5 flag height.
The golden diagonal line represents the "Slachtedyk" aka the
Golden Hoop, the old dike preventing the old Middelzee from flooding
Kûbaard and the rest of Westergo. The green field represents the
meadows. The jumping horse symbolizes cattle-breeding and the concours
hippique, organized annually in the village. The silver rose symbolizes
the poetry of Petronella Moens. Silver for purety and harmony of poetry,
red for the love of language.
In the flag some elements of the arms have been used.
