Shipmate Flagchart : http://www.flagchart.net
adopted 6 Sep 1967
The official municipal flag of Ede consists of two equally wide vertical
stripes yellow and blue. In the center of the flag, half on the yellow,
half on the blue stripe, is a stylized liberty hat, and below it the back
of a book, the Bible. The dimensions of hat and Bible are together 1/4
of flagheight and 2/5 of flaglength.
The flag was adopted by the municipal council on 6 Sep 1967. It was
inspired by the Coat of Arms, which dates from the time of the French Revolution.
In accordance with the advice of the High Council of Nobility and of
the Foundation for Banistiek and Heraldry, elements from the municipal
arms, namely the liberty hat and the back of the Bible, have been included.
The liberty hat can also be found on coins from the time of the Eighty
Years war (1568-1648).

Ede uses a logo (like most Dutch municipalities nowadays), which consists
of the Edean version of the Statue of Liberty and below it "ede". However
that logo is also used on promotional flags. Every citizen is supposed
to own one, and is allowed to use it whenever he/she feels like using it.
(it costs € 45).

The Shipmate site has a yellow over blue horizontally striped flag,
captioned 1938 (another parading flag on the occasion of Queen Wilhelmina's
40 years reigning jubilee)

Sierksma, in Nederlands Vlaggenboek, 1962 [sie62]
shows a blue flag with a yellow statue of liberty in the canton, which
is derived from the Coat of Arms.
That flag was not official, but was used for festive occasions. The
image of the Coat of Arms has been adapted on the flag in a correct way (says Sierksma).
For this image I've used the Coat of Arms on the Ede
municipal website - snatched from Ralf
Hartemink's website.
