adopted 19 april 1982.

Garrelsweer is a village in the municipality of Loppersum in Groningen
province. It celebrated its 950th birthday in 2007 with the issue of its
own flag. The design was produced by two Garrelsweerders: Mr. E. Raad and
Mr. M. Vereijken, chairperson of the local Iceclub.
Their interpretation of the flag:
The colors are the same as in the logo of Loppersum.
Blue is for the Damsterdiep (canal) flowing through the village.
Green represents the green environment.
Yellow for agriculture and its products found around the village.
During the Newyears-reception in the village community center "Weersterheem"
the design was represented and greeted with a lot of gusto.
The mayor of Loppersum, Mr. A. Rodenboog, hoisted the tricolore during
a festive presentation in fromt of the center.
Now Garrelsweer is completely covered by a sea of flags!

Stedum is a village and former municipality in Loppersum municipality
in Groningen province. Its flag is described in Derkwillem Visser's "Gemeentevlaggen
en wapens Koninkrijk der Nederlanden, 2001":
"5 equally wide horizontal stripes of red, white, green, white, and
blue, with in the canton the municipal arms. The knight has both feet on
the green stripe.
Adoption date: unknown."
The double eagle is the emblem of the Nittersum family. The knight
could be Eppo van Nittersum, but it is more probable, that it refers to
the Bible, 1 Thessalonicenses 5:8 "but let us, who ought to be sober by
daylight, be armed with the armour of belief and love and with the helmet
of hope and salvation". That would be the arms of Johan Clant, lord of
Stedum, who was the first to use it.
