Losdorp village

Losdorp is a village in Delfzijl municipality, Groningen province, formerly in Bierum.
Flag: Three equally wide horizontal stripes of blue - white - blue; the topstripe at the hoist charged with two yellow fleur-de-lis; the bottom with at the hoist with one yellow fleur-de-lis; on white at the hoist between the fleurs-de-lis a red clover-leaf.
Adopted 17 Apr 1987; design: Jacob B. Bronsema.
The arms and flag were requested by the village council of Losdorp.
Both designs are nearly identical. The fleurs-de-lis are derived from the arms of the Freylema family, which lived in the Freylemaheerd, later Freylemaborg (manor) in Losdorp. The white stripe (fess) symbolizes the Spijkster Meer (canal), which flows through the village. The cloverleaf point at the agricultural character of the village, and can also be found on the flag of the former municipality of Bierum.

Losdorp probably means: little village (frisian; lyts); it was a village around a church on a "wierde" (mound), and has at present c. 250 inhabitants. Nicolaus Westendorp was buried here; he was a 19th century vicar, who was known for regional geography and -history.
But please: don't call them "Doddels" (short, thick set people), as they may attack you with Grunninger clogs or hayforks.
However - Ms. Doddel is a character in the cartoons of Maarten Toonder about Heer Bommel, a nouveau-riche brown bear; she is his secret (and sometimes not so secret) admirer. They married in 1986, after which all adventures of Heer Bommel came to an abrupt end.
