On 1 January 2007 Swalmen merged with Roermond to form the new municipality of Roermond.
Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 8.687; area: 22,96 km². Settlements: Swalmen (seat), Asselt, Boukoul.
Flag: two equally wide horizontal stripes of red and green.
This was an unofficial flag, used by the municipal council. The colors are derived from the municipal arms. It was finally adopted 19 Mar 1981 by municipal resolution.

Swalmen Coat of Arms

Granted 15 Aug 1911. The saint is St. Lambertus. On 11 Feb 2010 adopted as village-arms.
