Shipmate Flagchart : http://www.flagchart.net
adopted 28 Jan 1958
The coat of arms of the city of Velsen consists of a gold-coloured lamb
(Agnus Dei), carrying a standard, portrayed on a blue background. On the
standard, a so-called crosspennant, a St. Andrew's cross is depicted. The
oldest known portraiture of the Velsen coat of arms dates from the middle
of the 17th century. The original hues of this coat of arms are obscure.
In 1816 the present colours were officially defined by the High Council
of Nobility.
