Hoogland suburb
Hoogland is a northern suburb of Amersfoort, Utrecht province, until 1974
a separate municipality. Some say that Hoogland (=high land) is a premonition
of Amersfoort-on-Sea, when the sealevel is drowing the (Dutch) land between
the Northsea and Amersfoort...
Recently Hoogland adopted a flag: green with the old coat of arms in
center.
The Coat of Arms is probably from Ralf
Hartemink's pages
The Hooglandse vlag is proudly presented at this
website.
The fact that Amersfoort is celebrating its 750th anniversary has nothing
to do with the festivities at the same time in Hoogland, which was absorbed
by its big sister in 1974. In one week in February 2009 900 Hooglandse
vlaggen were sold and it is expected that all 4000 households in the suburb
will be able to show it.
Arms: Granted 14 March 1941: or over all an engrailed saltire sable,
in chief and base a fleur-de-lis gules and dexter and sinister a five-leaved
crown of the same; the shield surmounted with a crown or of 3 leaves and
2 pearls.
Explanation: the arms is made from elements of arms of former important
families. The fleur-de-lis is derived from the Van Amersfoort family, who
owned possessions here.
The saltire is from the arms of the Lockhorst family in Leusden, who
owned the judiciary of Coelhort in the municipality of Hoogland.
The crown is derived from the arms of the family de Coninck, owners
of the lordship of Emiclaer.
