On 16 November 2009, the "Leidsch Dagblad" reported the selection of
a new flag for Katwijk, required by the incorporation of the former municipalities
of Rijnsburg and Valkenburg into Katwijk on 1 January 2006. The flag is
described as "the cross flanked by the colours of Rijnsburg (red) and Valkenburg
(yellow).
The "cross" is a blue saltire on a white field, the former flag of
Katwijk. The Higher Council of Nobility recommended that the new flag conveys
a "feeling of identification", accordingly a blue saltire. The flag still
needs to be formally adopted by the Municipal Council of Katwijk.

On 18 November, "Westonline"
presented an image of the flag selected by the municipal administration
among more than ten proposals. The flag is quartered white-red-white-yellow
by a thick blue saltire. The Municipal Council shall adopt or reject the
proposal next December.

The arms is based on the old Katwijk arms (see below), embracing the
Rijnsburg arms. The yellow color refers to
Valkenburg.
