Blazon: På grøn grunn ein sølv stolpe laga med taggesnitt. In English: Vert a pile argent engrailed.
Approved by the royal resolution of 24 April 1992, after a drawing by Even Skoglund after the original idea by Margrete Hareide from Bygstad. (cf. https://www.gaular.kommune.no/artikkel.aspx?MId1=112&AId=353&Print=1)
The design symbolises the Gaula river with its many waterfalls flowing through an agricultural municipality.
