ZUKOWICE Commune - GLOGOW County - DOLNOSLASKIE Voivodship
Old German name: Herrndorf. Even older German name: Herrindorf
(1299)
It is possible that the village bore also Czech, Hungarian and Austrian
names, and who knows, maybe even Wendish or Sorbian names long before anybody
else.
On the website which is gone already ( I've got it from the local copy
of <www.wp.pl>, cached) there is a Paragraph # 2 of the Statute of the
Commune, dated December 31, 2000 describing rhe Arms and Flag of the Żukowice
Commune.
Here is the brief summary of it:
ARMS: Top of the shield (header) - Red Frisian Arcade. Field of the
shield - gold. On it, Red Fortress with two towers topped with Red Banners
facing opposite directions. The Gate of the Fortress - open, without the
door and with the gold interior.
FLAG: Horizontal rectangle 5:8 with two horizontal bands
of equal width 1:1. Upper: RED; Lower: GOLD
This site shows the full
Coat of Arms of Żukowice with the two strange beasts supporting it as it is very
heavy with the gorgeous Frisian Arcade on the top of the shield.
Here is the
site where I've got the info on the flag.
