Area: 73.41 sq.km (28.3 sq.mi) Population: 8,311 (2006) land under cultivation - 52% forests - 41%It lies in the Beskid Makowski mountain range of the Carpathian Mountains. Highest peak is Mt.Lubomir -904 m above sea level.
First mentioned in written documents in 1333 although it existed as a fortified settlement in 1179-1274 on the borders of the Land of Cracow and Silesia.
During WW II an area of robust partisan activity, mainly of Home Army (AK) but also of BCH (Peasant's Battalions), AL (People's Army), NSZ (National Armed Forces) and GL (People's Guard).
Arms and flag adopted on August 31, 2005 (resolution # XXI/173/2005)
Flag: a rectangle in the ratio 5:8 divided into two vertical fields:
at the hoist,
on the yellow field the Arms are placed. The fly part of the flag is red.
