Placed under Polish administration in 1945 in accordance with Potsdam
agreement. Expelled German population was replaced with Ukrainians from
South Eastern Poland, removed to deprive the nationalist and anti-communist
Ukrainian partizans (UPA) their support base.
City rights since 1962.
Arms and flag adopted on September 28, 2007 (resolution # XIII/87/07).
There is no explanation of the symbols available, but the Arms underscore
the agricultural character of the commune and the role of the railroad
junction the town plays.

The white rectangle beneath the shield is really rather unusual- not
to say ugly - is it not?
Christopher Southworth, 16 Nov 2008
Yup!
At this
webpage you can find the Statutes with an image as we drew it (that's
resolution # XIII/81/2007).
However there is a flagoid here
(halfway down) without the white rectangle, and the name KORSZE in a white
rectangle on top. I wouldn't know whether that is the real flag...
