I went to Ponce last year and bought a flag that is the one represented at the pueblos-de-puertorico site. I am sending you my corrected image, and a 325:217 image of the current one.

The upper flag is the official Ponce flag; The lower one is really the variant form which is also used.

Ponce (refers to Juan Ponce de Leo'n, first Governor of Puerto Rico) - Its flag colors symbolism is those of the Coat of Arms. The present flag disposed itself off the shield border and the sugar cane and coffee boughs.
Blas Delgado, 16 April 2001

The new flag of Ponce (don't know how long in official usage), which consists of the old Coat of Arms (now official) with the word "Ponce" in the upper fly and the date 1877 in the lower hoist. This date makes reference to the year when Ponce became a "City" by Spanish standards. . Ponce was founded in 1682, so that's the reason for the first date in the previous flag (not 1692). The new date of 1877 refers to Ponce been named City, with its concomitant five-turreted mural crown.
