It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red field.

Shield Or with base wavy of Azure and Argent with its bar wavy Argent charged with two fish Gules, a pine tree eradicated Vert fruited Gules with two balls of resin Gules at the stem, flanked by two bolts Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "FONTES - ABRANTES".

Fontes Commune is one of the 13 communes of the Abrantes municipality (q.v.); it had 627 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 28.5 km².
