It is a fairly typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue background.

The arms are Argent between two pairs of fesses wavy Azure and surrounded by two pairs of wheat ears Vert tied Gules a bee Sable emphasized Sable. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VILA DE BOTICAS".
Meaning:
The fesses stands for local rivers, the wheat means farming, the bee means workmanship, and the heraldic metals and colours bear the usual pseudo-historical claptrap: green for hope and faith, red for strength, vigour and stamina, black for firmness and honesty, blue for charity and loyalty and white humility and wealth. "Boticas" may mean either "stores", or "shops" (from Greek "apoþeka"), or be a diminutive of "boots". These arms are canting for neither of these percieved meanings.

Plain (monocoloured) Portuguese subnational flags are not allowed to have variations without arms: plain flags always carry the coat of arms.

Boticas municipality had 6417 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of 10 communes covering 322,41 km². It is part of Vila Real District, traditional province and 1999 ref. adm. region Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, C.C.R. / NUTS II Norte, and NUTS III Alto Trás-os-Montes.
