It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field (village rank).

The arms are Argent two olive branches Vert fruited Sable set in saltire and in chief a 5-point star Azure between a branch of cork oak Vert fruited proper at dexter and a pomegranate Vert open Gules at sinister and in base two barrulets wavy Azure. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "MONTALVO - CONSTÂNCIA".
Meaning:
The arms not canting as it shows local produce and geography while "monte alvo" means "white hill" (don't know about the star, though).

Montalvo Commune is one of the three communes of the Constância municipality (q.v.). The commune had 1081 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 12,51 km².
