About the Flag

It is a slighty atypical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on plain yellow background.

The arms are Gules a castle Or masoned Sable between two grapevines Vert fruited Purpure set in pale. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "NOTÁVEL VILA DE CASTELO DE VIDE".
Meaning:
The honour augmentation "notável" ("noteworthy") added to the usual scroll text was given for the town's role during the Napoleonic invasions. "Castelo de vide" means "grapevine castle", thus the arms a fully canting.

Castelo de Vide municipality had 3872 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of 4 communes covering 246,83 km². It is part of Portalegre District, traditional province and NUTS III Alto AlentejoAlto Alentejo, and 1999 ref. adm. region and C.C.R. / NUTS II Alentejo.
