It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain white field (village rank).

The arms are Vert a rowing boat Argent garnished Sable and in chief a grind wheel Argent between two mill wheels and on a diminute base wavy Argent a fess Azure wavy. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "BARCO - GUIMARÃES".
Meaning:
The arms have a canting element, as "barco" is Portuguese for "ship" or "boat".
