It is a fairly typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue background (village rank).

The arms are Or a 5-point star Azure and in chief a shuttle Gules open Sable and threaded Argent and two coupaux Vert issuant from the base. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (commune rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VALE DE ESTRELA".
Meaning:
The toponym means Star Valley (refering to the local Serra da Estrela, Star Mountain Range, and the arms are thus canting.

Vale de Estrela Commune is one of the 45 communes of Guarda Municipality (q.v.); it had 418 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 12,95 km².
