It is a fairly typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered red over black (town rank).

On a silver field, realized as light grey (left image above) or white (left image above), a black castle over a green hill charged with silver-blue silver waves, in dexterer chief a “templar” cross,in sinister chief an Order of Christ cross, 4 silver tower mural crown and a white scroll with the words in black "VILA DE IDANHA-A-NOVA".
