It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field.

Shield Or, an open book Argent bound gules, superimposed by a pen sinister bendy Azure, in chief a red heart flaming of the same and constrained by black thorns. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "CORAÇÃO DE JESUS - LISBOA".
Meaning:
The flaming heart, known as "Heart of Jesus", is a canting element.

Shield barry wavy of Azure and Argent (according to Sérgio HortaAzure ten barrulets wavy Argent), two books Argent tied Gules and enveloped Or, in chief a golden leopard armed and tongued red, holding a palm leaf Or in his right forepaw, in base two stamp pads Sable tied Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "SÃO MAMEDE - LISBOA".
Meaning:
The barry wavy shield is symbolizing the riches of water in the commune (Mãe-de-Água nas Amoreiras). The leopard is an attribute of the martyr St. Mamede, patron saint of Longos Vales. The books are symbolizing the many higher education schools in the commune. The stamps are referring to the National Printing Press.
