It is a fairly typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a yellow field.

The arms are gules, on a cross throughout azure fimbriated, the quarters covered by filigrane hearts or, a castle tower or. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) with white scroll reading "VILA DA PÓVOA DE LANHOSO" in black upper case letters.
