It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field.

The arms are Argent an orb Azure encircled Or and ensigned with a cross crosslet of the first and in orle ten fig leaves Or. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "FIGUEIREDO DE ALVA".
Meaning:
The word "figueiredo", apart from being a common Portuguese surname, may also mean "fig grove", and thus the fig leaves are canting.

Figueiredo de Alva Commune is one of the 14 communes of São Pedro do Sul Municipality (q.v.); it had 1026 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 15,56 km².
