The arms are azure two arrows Or per saltire pointing downwards and tied Gules between four bees Or striped Sable hauriant and on a counterchief wavy Argent two fesses wavy Azure. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "SOUSEL".

Sousel municipality had 5780 inhabitants in 2001, and it is divided in 4 communes, covering 279,4 km². It is part of: Portalegre District, traditional province Alto Alentejo, 1999 ref. adm. region and C.C.R. / NUTS II Alentejo, and NUTS III Alentejo Central.
