It is a fairly typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a yellow and blue quartered field (town rank).

The arms are Vert a fess wavy Argent charged with two barrulets wavy Azure and in chief a scales Or hanging from a flaming sword Or pointing upwards and in base a shuttle Or with bobbin of the Same. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "AVES".
Meaning:
The toponym means "birds’ town", but there are none on the arms.

Aves Commune is seated in Aves town (a.k.a. Vila das Aves) and is one of the 13 communes of Santo Tirso Municipality; it had 8492 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 6,07 km².
