It is a fairly typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a background quartered of white and green (town rank).

The arms are Vert on a fess wavy Argent two barrulets wavy Azure between a pair of palms Argent in chief crossed at their stems and two traditional corn barns Or griddled Argent and garnished sable seen headfront set per fess . Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "COUTO DE ESTEVES".
