Hatohobei's state flag was selected in a competition. Ms. Tekla Emilio's design was selected by the Flag Winning Award Committee, chaired by Mrs. Obita Victor. In the new design:
  • the three stars represent Hatohobei, Hotsarihie, and Pieraurou
  • the clam shell represents Romohparuh, the first person on Hatohobei, who claimed ownership of the island by burying a clam shell
  • the five fingers of the clam shell represent clans of Tobi
  • blue represents the territorial waters and airspace of Hatohobei State and white represents freedom and peace.
