About the flag

Kaluga city flag: blue flag with red vertical stripe at the hoist (remotely based on the popular RSFSR model) with a horizontal wavy white stripe accross the blue area, a crown above it, and a sputnik (points to fly) at the upper hoist.
António Martins, 09 Mar 2003

Flag adopted on 25 January 2000. Blue field with wavy white stripe and crown taken from city arms (adopted 1777: Azure, a Fess vawy Argent accompained in the top with an Emperor’s Crown). Red vertical stripe near the hoist charged with the Sputnik. Sputnik symbolizes the motherland of scientist Tsiolkovsky (Циолковский), founding father of cosmonautics. Ratio 2:3.
