Description

About the flag

The arms of Upland was granted at the time of the funeral of Gustavus I (1560); a revised grant was made on 17 November 1939. The orb would probably be a sign for Upland as the province of Sweden was (and still is) the political centre of Sweden.

The County of Upsala consist of a large part of the historical province of Upland (Uppland) and use the same arms (and flag, a banner of the arms) as Upland. The arms of Upland also makes up one field in the arms of the County of Stockholm and is therefore also present in its flag.
