Dalen & Fraternitas. Rederi A/B Dalen was formed in 1940 being operated and managed by Otto Kihlström and was an associate company of Rederi A/B Fraternitas. It appears that these two companies were taken over in 1954 by Jörgen Lorentzen of Norway who retained the Swedish Flag and their registered office in Stockholm. The companies continued to be shown separately in Lloyds and in the early 1970s were shown as being operated by Dalen-Fraternitas. In 1984 the Swedish website gives them as being as being sold to the Bell Stove group also of Norway who principally operated through Stove Shipping. The new owners soon closed down the Swedish companies with the last ships sold in 1987.

The Collectors Corner website cap badge flags shows 3 for Rederi A/B
Dalen. First is a horizontal bicolor of blue over red with overall a
white "D", second diagonal halves from upper hoist to lower fly of red over
blue and overall a white "D" and third is the triband with red star shown by
Jarig, above. In addition the US Navy 1961 publication shows a pale blue flag
with a white diamond throughout bearing a red star. These changes may have resulted from the ownership changes,
especially the triband as it is either identical or close to that of
Stove Shipping. |
