Rožňava (Hungarian: Rozsnyó, German: Rosenau has 18.647 inhabitants
(31,2% Hungarian; 1990 census). In 1910 6.565 inhabitants (89,7% Hungarians,
6,2% Slovakians and 2,4% Germans). The town was the seat of Gömör és Kishont
(Slovakian Gemer i Malé Hont) County of Hungary till 1919/1920 (Czechoslovakian
occupation). 1920-1938 Czechoslovakian, 1938-1944 Hungarian (after the
Decision of Vienna). The Treaty of Paris (1947) reallocated it to Czechoslovakia.
