Description of the flag

The Port Autonome de Dakar (PAD) is a public company headquartered in Dakar, and manages of course the port of Dakar. Thanks to the strategic position of its sheltered harbor, Dakar was in 2007 the third largest port in the sub-region after the Autonomous Port of Abidjan and Lagos Port, and ranked ninth on the continent.

The flag of Dakar Port Authority, hoisted in front of the main building of the International Maritime Station (Gare Maritime Internationale), is white with in small size in the center the logo of the Port autonome, on which is added the text “Gare Maritime Internationale”. The logo shows a shell of cowry. The shells of cowries were used for centuries as a currency in Africa.
